How can i get rid of mice safely?

We have an enclosed garage where we store things but there has been mice in there since we noticed things chewed on and mouse droppings. We do not care to use traps and don't want to have a mess to clean up such as a dead mouse so what can we use that doesn't cost a lot and please don't tell me to hire a pest remover person we cannot afford one.How can i get rid of mice safely?
mothballs. Get a couple boxes of mothballs throw them in small spaces under things, behind things, etc... Rodents hate the smell. Don't let the kids eat them. How can i get rid of mice safely?
If you don't want to kill them I would suggest the sticky paper, they get stuck to it and you pour oil (I think) over it to release them. It is non-toxic and the little critters don't have to suffer much, just a little. Or if you don't care much about killing them, just a mess, a cat will kill them with a quick bite to the neck and leave them , sometimes in a slipper to get a treat for a job well done.
Traps are the best way. My mom used to reuse the traps after she flushed the mice down the toilet.
buy a cat or go to an animal shelter. Cats are great mousers and they are a great source of love and affection
Axe body spray.
