What is the best way to get rid of mice?

I don't have any pets or children. I have noticed a mouse running around at night. I took a good look around and found some droppings (I think). I've never had this problem before. I want to nip this in the bud before winter sets in and they come inside. I set a trap with peanut butter and caught one last night, however I know that there are probably more. If I set out poison, how can I find the bodies? Will they die immediately, or do they drag the poison back to their nest? Will they spread the poison to the rest of the mice in the nest? What are the favorite hiding places? What is the most inexpensive and efficient ways to get rid of them?

I'm not interested in getting a cat.

Any suggestions??What is the best way to get rid of mice?
I expect contacting a pest control company would help. They would be able to tell you everything you need to know. What is the best way to get rid of mice?
Try to buy a cat or get mouse trappers ,or mouse poison
leave potato flakes and instant rice around and let him eat. when it mixes with the content of his tummy poof mouse problem gone and no poisoned mickey to deal with
My father had a major infestation and used melted chocolate on a trap. He killed over 30 mice and never had to rebait the trap.
There's only 1 best way to get rid of mice get a Cat it will eat them and roaches
move to another house..

oh, and the bodies.. find them under your bed
Do a walk around your house and try to find the holes. They can be holes the mouse dug, spots where the pipes go in, anything. Seal them up, put wire grating over them, whatever.

Peanut butter works better than the cheese, so you're doing good there. Most mice figure out how to get the cheese without setting off the trap.

If you use poison, the mice will usually get outside, act sick, and be caught or eaten by something else before they die. They will not spread the poison to other mice. If they die in the house... well, you'll know, and you'll find them after a while, trust me on that.

Mice tend to have tiny holes in the grass, or around trees. If it's bermuda grass, you might never even find them all, but if you've got loads of cheap water, you can flood the lawn. A lot of the mice will drown in the holes, and the rest you can BB, or shovel, or whatever... kind of tough to do though. You might also use one of those root grinder things, and just chew up the whole yard... probably cheaper than all the water you'd need to flush them out anyway, and if yor yard isn't perfectly flat it'll be more effective.

In general though, killing mice outside the house is a waste of time, and you'd be better off... feeding neighborhood cats.. so they bring the mice to other people's homes... or getting a dog or something. They;ll have more time, and won't be as rough on the yard as these other ideas.
If you live in an apartment, ask the landlord for some mouse sticky trap. Or you can buy them at your local store. It's affect because it gives off a sweet scent to attract the mouse and when they step on it, BANG!!!! ....they stick. The thing is that you have to kill it after, yep, dirty job.
Mouse Traps are cheap but are sometimes messy i would advise killing thim with that green poison there like small pelletes they eat that stuff finds a drink and BANG no more mice and if you still leave the poison where it is they will most likely not want to come back.
Some people will suggest a cat, and while a cat can be a very efficient mice-killer, chances are you'll get a lazy one, or worse yet, one who brings in more live mice... like our cat. :)

We used a sticky trap for the ones that our cat brought in; we bought four and set them against each wall in the basement. (Mice like to run along walls and under things; they're nervous about crossing open space.) It worked, and the glue is extremely powerful... so be careful about getting your fingers on it! Only problem is disposing of the mouse after it's been caught... I don't know how you feel about killing it, but it's very hard to free a mouse from the sticky trap.
Put mothballs around where you don't want them.
mouse traps
I would go to that old fashioned way setting out traps of cheese. Eventually you would get all of them.
