What is the best way to keep mice out of your car?

I live in the country and constantly have trouble with field mice getting into my cars. Even if they don't get inside, they build nests on top the engine.

I just bought two new cars and within a week mice have gotten into both of them.

How do I keep them out, and how do I get rid of the ones already there? What is the best way to keep mice out of your car?
Don't get cats. I saw that on Loony Tunes. Then you have to get a dog to get the cat away, then a bear to get the dog away, then a lion to get the bear away, then an elephant to get the lion away..and then mice to get the elephant away. Its a mess! A viscious cycle!

But seriously. Put some charcoal in your car. It keeps them away somehow. My father used to do it.

Seriously - Put a lump or two of charcoal in the car. Something about it keeps mice and other varmint away!!What is the best way to keep mice out of your car?
funny you should bring this up,lol, i rember, haveing some to nest under the hood of my car, ,realy, it was funny, when i pull, up to get gas an let the check the oil, i say fill her vup, an water an feed my mice, lol,,, , but to get on with yor problem,, , their not realy to many ways, unless you wish to kill them, one is a cat, poision, ,mauth ball,, are do as i , take the nest out, they soon learn, they not wanted
cats.... if you use mouse bait the the mice will die in your cars and stink... cats will at least run the mice away
put moth balls all around ur car or just where ur engine is in a spot where they wont harm the car the moth balls will keep away the mice
Get a CAT^';^MOBILE
20 foot wall with cameras
Mothballs will discourage mice, but they also discourage humans from entering the car.

Mouse baits (D-Con, or Tomcat) are the most effective means of mouse control IMHO, and will work on other like-size rodents. However, if your cats eat the dead mice, they may get sick from the poison.

Traps are also effective in mouse control. The century-old spring-type still works fine, and they're cheap. A little dab of peanut butter as bait seems to work well for me.

Glue traps might work best in a vehicle, especially in the engine compartment.

All of these methods will need periodic replacement of baits and traps, and daily inspections for dead mice..

This is a continuing campaign, something you have do take care of routinely and endlessly, because nature will provide you with an unending supply of mice.
