Why do you eat with your hands? Over time they evolved, as humans did to have a certain amount of dexterity in their hands so they can hold things.

As someone said just as people do it's become more hygenic and dignified to bring the food to the mouth rather than eat off the ground.

Esp with nuts and seeds they need to hold the nut steady while they bite it open or turn it around in their hands to peel it. It is part of their diet. Why do mice hold their food in their front paws when they are eating?
It keeps their food off the ground and it makes it easier to eat. Why do you grab your food and pull it up to your mouth instead of bending over and eating it like a dog? It also gives them more control so it doesn't slide around.
It's just the way rodents eat. Humans have our own way of eating different foods, and so do they.
