What is the best way to get rid of mice?

Some friends were storing old clothes for us and when we brought the clothes back home, we brought mice with them!

Now we can't seem to get rid of them! Poison is untouched, they scrape the peanut butter and dog food off of snap traps. What is the best way to get rid of mice?
Traps really are your best bet. If they are able to scrape stuff off of your traps then you either have the wrong kind, or your traps are too small for the size mice you have. Go get some new ones (mice and rats can smell their blood on a used trap and won't go for it), get both sizes of traps (for the babies and the grown ups), and press bread on the plate/trigger, really mash it on there good so they can't just pluck it off. Don't use a lot either, just enough to get them there. Not so much that they can nibble the bread and not set off the trap.

Then set the traps out where ever you think the mice might be; under the sink, closets, behind the entertainment center, in the garage, etc. Anywhere dark and semi-sheltered. And make sure that the traps are the only source of easily accessed food for them, otherwise they will bypass the trap for, say, the bag of dog food. We keep our dog food in a metal trash can for this very reason.

Also you want to do a walk around your house and make sure there are no small holes or crevices they are getting in, plug any such holes (even as small as a quarter) with steel wool. Rats can eat everything else, but not steel wool.

My parents live next to a field and every couple of years some mice find their way into the house and this is what you have to do. Poisons don't always give you the results you want. Many a summer have we had to live with the acrid smell of decomposing rat because they ate the poison and died in the attic or wall. So personally I wouldn't use the poisons. Just set the traps out, several at a time and keep setting them until you don't catch anymore. What is the best way to get rid of mice?
If you go to a local home improvement center and ask for a mice deterrent that squeaks. I don't know what its called but you plug it in and put it in a closet or cupboard. Oh wait my husband just said they are called a Sonic Pest Chaser. Also seal your dried food goods like cereal or flour in Plastic containers. If there is no food source and its annoying for them to be there they will leave. Supposedly they are cheaper than nightlights but they work the same way.
Use the tubular traps which drop closing the hatch behind them or use Almonds on snap traps!! Poor little Cutie pie dont you know that mice dont actually go for cheese as much as peanut butter, you obviously are a city girl!!!
Mice will inhibit a place where there is food, water, and shelter. Take those away and they will be gone. A cat or two would also help.
a couple of things set up a ton of the mouse traps

buy a cat

clean everything

put cheese on the traps they like it more
stop being messy lol . uhm no

arsenic in peanut butter will kill the mice
