Mice have moved in - any ideas for a homemade mouse trap?

I had a bit of luck with a cardboard box with a swinging door - they just chew through it though if you don't find them quick enough. Any other ideas? Mice have moved in - any ideas for a homemade mouse trap?
A five gallon bucket with a paper cover. cut an ';X'; into the paper, hang a tasty morsel over the ';X';. A mouse will jump for the morsel, fall into the bucket. If you want to kill the mouse put three inches of water in the bucket. If you want him live, leave it dry inside. This works very well, figure some details yourself. Won't work on anything much bigger than a chipmunk.Mice have moved in - any ideas for a homemade mouse trap?
We had a problem with all kinds of critters. They would chew up our deck boards and everything else they could get their teeth on including wiring for our HVAC unit. We started letting our cats into the yard and we haven't had a problem since. Every once in a while they are kind enough to bring in their little gifts but it's better than having them scurry across the kitchen floor in the middle of the night.
Build a better mouse trap and you'll be rich.

Why do you want a home made mice trap? They cost about 50 cents and they are reusable (Yuk)

The bad news mice do not live alone and usually have large families.

There are all kinds of traps and poisons. Some traps do not kill the mice and you can throw them in your back yard.
