visit your local Humane Society and get a couple of cats...problem solved.
You definitely do not want to use traps with little children running around. I know that oil of peppermint works. Soak some on a few cotton balls and place them by the base boards, or in cabinets. All rodents are supposed to be allergic to this. You can purchase oil of peppermint at a health food store. I hope this works for you.
Get a hungry cat or some glue traps... It worked for me!! Keep all your open food in the fridge. Dont leave out anything... food for other pets, cookies... nothing. If there is nothing to eat, they might move on as well...
You might check at a local hardware store, sometimes they have 'safe' traps that work more like cages rather than spring mousetraps. There's no risk of your little ones being hurt on them, and you can take the offending critters back out into a field at your leisure. As for keeping them out, you might try and see where they're located, as a lot of mice tend to stick around the area they entered the house, unless they've been there for quite some time. I know we had a major mouse problem, and of all things, there was a little hole in the exhaust vent for our clothes dryer, which they conveniently raided our house from. They can come in from some real off-the-wall places, so the best advice is just to keep your eyes open, and think like one of them.

Good luck with your little pests; the mice too, hehe. =D
Glue traps are the best method to trap rats and mice. I found detailed information at http://pests.in

When I was little and lived in Colorado Springs, CO my dad used to shote mice in the basement with a BB gun (it was a little spring loaded hand gun) lol . . .it worked
decon makes a trap that the mouse goes into and then it spins shut on them, you then pick it up and toss it into the garbage.

safe for use in households with children.
