How do you get rid of mice in the house?

Regular snap traps seem to do the best for us. Glue traps are cruel and don't kill them, they just suffer. Bait traps don't seem to work at all. How do you prevent them from getting in the house to begin with? I have heard steel wool and moth balls work, do they? How do you get rid of mice in the house?
We've had mice trouble before during the winter. Because we have children, they're very aware of the consequences for the mice if we use ';cruel'; traps. We've had very good success with live mouse traps. The main key is the bait. We've found that peanut butter is the best. One winter we caught 11. It was one family!! I took the traps to a public park with the kids and dumped the live mice into a garbage receptacle where they can wallow in the garbage. It worked and the kids loved it! Good luck!

Here's the website of the manufacturer of the traps we used..

And the model with had success with:

ps.. we also have two cats, but the traps did better than our cats. Indoor cats tend to ';play'; with the mice for a while, and our cats are not declawed so...the poor mice that were caught by the cats suffered before they died. How do you get rid of mice in the house?
dicon ,most grocery and hardware stores sell it
steel wool will work if you can stuff their access route.

cats work the best! :) cat hair works very well, too, if you don't have a cat but know someone who brushes them.
There is one answer... buy a cat!
Yeah mice is horrible one mice bitted my passaport and i had 2 get a new 1 but yeah the mouse traps of glue just make them suffer poor things they dont desirv too be killed but they get in our homes and we have 2 kill them i think mouse traps are better because they just get killed in 1 sec.!
mouse taps
there is very good poison but you have to live the house like for 2 days
The glue traps along with a bb/pellet to the back of the dome will work dear...no matter how cruel the methods are, you must get control before they run you out of your own home.

Call the pest control people if all fails..
won't you call the people who kill them.
Get full grown tom cat. Offer him a saucer of milk a day and all the mice he can catch. I have seen mice in 60 million dollar buildings. Seal points pf entry.
Get a cat. Works very well. Give a cat a job, smile.
Get a cat.
get a cat !!
you need at least 2 cat
yes, steel wool in holes is helpful. The best thing to do is find out where they are getting in a close those holes IMMEDIATELY. may require some unscheduled home repair. D-Con will kill them and they 'disentegrate'. No dead bodies to remove. I've also heard those sonic traps work. Perhaps a cat. When all else fails, call and EXTERMINATOR.
get a cat
Mice can get in through a hole smaller than 1/4 of an inch. It is almost impossible to keep them out.

I put out poison under the house and in the cabinets. I have on one set of drawers that they get in so I do not keep any food in there. I have traps but many times they spring them and eat the bait. So I put out poison I do not use De-con. I prefer

Just one bite or tomcat and I rotate which type I put out so none develope tolerance to the stuff.
Better to invest in a couple of cats! Plus, cats keep themselves clean and easy to take care of!
get a mice trap
Moth balls don't work. I think the only way steel wool works is the mice eat it, and that isn't much more humane than the other methods you mentioned. I think the only thing you could do is use the mice traps you already know of, or call a pro. Sorry.
fill any holes with steel wool, and place moth balls in dark corners. its true. then get a cat.
get a cat or 2, if you see a mouse then its either dead or running for its life
Get a cat. You will never see a mouse unless he gives it to you as a gift.
Snap traps catch them.
