How do you tell mice apart if the fur on all them is the same color?

My mother mouse accidentally had a litter (we wanted 2 females so this wouldn't happen but we found out wayyyy to late) and all the babies grew up and were all the same color in fur. We are giving them away but we can't tell them apart! Help! How do you tell mice apart if the fur on all them is the same color?
Consult a pet care manual on how to sex (that is, determine the gender of) the mice, and separate them into different cages.

If that's not feasible, you could do something simple like mark their fur with a (small) mark from a non-toxic permanent marker (blue for male, pink for female, or whatever scheme you preferred) once you'd figured out what gender they are.How do you tell mice apart if the fur on all them is the same color?
paint their toenails.

why would you want to go through all that trouble? its probably cheaper and much easier to go to the hardware store or lowes or home depot and buy some. they do work very well.

How do I prevent Mice from coming in my home during the winter?

I live in Iowa, and in a trailer. Last Winter, although my home is extremely clean, I had an infestation of mice. It was enough to make me sick. I went out and bought some heavy duty poison and that fixed the problem, this year however I would like to prevent it somehow before it starts.....any ideas??? Please only ones that work :)How do I prevent Mice from coming in my home during the winter?
An outside cat is the best deterrent. They'll hunt down and kill any that are around and their scent will cause the others to avoid the area. How do I prevent Mice from coming in my home during the winter?
First check and see if you can find out how they got in, if you know how they got in then you could solve the problem by eliminating the point of entering . the only way to prevent them from coming in is don't give them a way to get in you would be surprised what little space a mouse can fir through some times they make or take advantage of a hole or crack under the floor of trailers, behind or under things.inspect your trailer real good and block any hole etc dont leave doors windows open without screens..
If you have an idea where they are coming in, old fashioned moth balls are a great repellent. Just place a few around the area the the scent will keep them (and most other critters) away.

I've had problems in the past with mice as well, and like you I had to resort to pellets. Got rid of the mice but obviously had a few corpses to deal with (or not, if they were hidden). I keep a packet in a spot on their previous runway, so if they decide to come back I can nip it in the bud.

And by the way, I have three cats and four dogs. Doesn't seem to phase the mice one bit.

Good luck.
Mice don't like STRONG smells or odors.. They HATE peppermint, spearmint so use essential oils on cotton pads in areas you've had mice activity...You can also use lavender oils as well....

Stuff all cracks and creavases with steel wool and fill with a gap filler available at home improvement stores...

Keep food items stored in plastic/glass sealing containers and keep apt. clean/tidy....
Yes, find and block any holes.

But I would also suggest you wash down the outside, around, and under the trailer. Mice leave a scent trail for the other mice to follow and that is how they find their way back to bother you again.
use steel wool around pipes and check for any cracks and holes in and around your house. when you seal them up it should take care of the problem. whoever they can come through a very small hole. or you could get a cat from a shelter and let him/her take care of it!
Go outside now and fill any opening with steel wool and and spray foam insulation. Good luck! Once mice find a nice warm home they don't give up easily.
i hate those mieces to pieces, remember that cartoon saying?. but keep the door shut or get a cat
better develop a love for cats!

How do I keep mice out of my pool heater in the winter ?

The mice made so much of a mess it's taking me more than 3 weeks to fix it.How do I keep mice out of my pool heater in the winter ?
Line the box with hardware cloth, its basically a screen type cloth, made of metal. They cannot chew through it. Also, put moth balls around the heater box, the smell keeps out most vermin. How do I keep mice out of my pool heater in the winter ?
Moth balls
take a shot gun and kill them
use alka seltzer they blow up in the insides

  • We found evidence of mice in the kitchen and trapped 5 last night! How many more are there?

We used the good old wooden traps. Have never seen them during the daytime and have not found evidence of them anywhere but the kitchen....We found evidence of mice in the kitchen and trapped 5 last night! How many more are there?
if you got 5 in one night there's probably 50 more to go.

check for openings to the outside, they are probably going in and out, they can get thru a crack 1/8'; or a hole the size of a dime easily. We found evidence of mice in the kitchen and trapped 5 last night! How many more are there?
Well look in the attic for evidence I bet you will find fecal matter all over. They can crawl along wires check all little cracks and seal them up also have lights out to see day light coming in. They have babies every 28 days, so you could have a lot more then you think. And if there is a lot of fecal matter around it should be cleaned up this causes problems. Don't use Poison as they will crawl into places and die and rot which will cause a different problem for you. Keep sealing and trapping and you will win.
hard to say mice can breed like crazy you might have gottn lucky and killed most of one litter but if the females are already breeding they will overtake your kitchen and house in no time

they can have up to 8 babies or more every month gestation is only 21 days just keep putting traps out until you stop trapping them and they stop showing up
It's not uncommon for you to have 9 or 10. I rented a home once, and saw droppings..I put out a trap, and the thing went off 5 times in like 20 mins. Its almost like roaches...if you've seen one, there are almost always more. They breed like crazy, and come from all over the place. (including your neighbors). Keep your traps out a week or so, and see if it stops. You may only have one family or two of mice. Consider a cat as well! LOL
The bad weather drives them inside there field mice check for any holes that they can enter through block them with somthing.you can also get poison you have children not a good idea to have poison another idea get a cat they usaly help.Hope this helped a bit
keep puting the traps out till you dont catch anymore! fall is when its getting cold and mice are looking for a warm place, so they maybe just comming around now, but they may have had babies, young mice.
Get some steel wool and stick in every hole you can find they do not like chewing on the steel wool.I did this and it works.

How do I prevent mice from coming back?

My husband and I are moving into a house that has been empty for about 6 months. The landlady says the previous people had mice. Their poop is all over the kitchen. I don't think there are mice now, since the place has been empty, but, how do we prevent them from coming back?

ThanksHow do I prevent mice from coming back?
Stuff steel wool in all openings - like by the radiators and set traps bated with peanut butter. How do I prevent mice from coming back?
    ask them to borrow money
get a cat my cat often brings me dead mice as gifts, not that I want them though
    Exterminator
Set mouse traps or poison (they do really work). Also you can buy this device that emits a signal that wards out mice, rats, spiders, cockroaches etc., it is harmless to cats and dogs but if you have small animals such as rabbits or hamsters because it will effect them too.
    Call the Pied Piper.
    Maybe set mouse traps?
    Remove all Cheese.
First clean everything. Keep all food in Tupperware. Check outside to be sure there are no openings they can get thru; caulk or repair as needed.. Set out some glue traps to see if there is any new activity. If so, it's best to get a professional. My son's last apartment smelled foul. They were living in the walls!

    Good Luck!

    Renata Grace
they are most likely not far away if they have vacated the house %26amp; they will be back when you move in

i live in the country and i get mice every fall, and sometimes when it is really rainy

i replaced all the baseboards, and instead of nailing or screwing them on i used liquid nails and glued them on

you can buy products at the hardware store for every hole you have to put in so that mice can't get through, like under the kitchen sink and around cable wires and the drier vent
Why are you moving into a place with mouse poop all over it? Good luck with that. Get a cat, maybe? I don't know. You would probably need to block their entry points...under the sink in the kitchen, etc. but how would you find them all? Mice have a way of getting in.

    LOL above answers!
Do what ';puma'; said about the steel wool. Also if it's really bad you'll have to have an exterminator come out on a regular basis because they could be in your walls or floor boards. Mice are a bi*** because they're so adaptable.
Don ' nt think it twice, buy a cat.隆
First of all, be very careful when you clean the kitchen - you might want to wear a face mask so you don't breath in any dust from their droppings. You can buy D-Con at any grocery store, it's usually on the laundry detergent aisle. You put the opened boxes of D-Con under the stove, fridge and at the back of your bottom cupboards. The mice will eat it, and crawl away to die.

Keep all your food in plastic containers, and be sure to clean up any crumbs after eating - if there isn't any food for them, they'll go elsewhere. And finally, consider getting a cat to police the house. I get mice in my brand new house when it turns cold in autumn, even though I have tried to plug every hole and other point where they might be getting into the house. Good luck!
    Don't cut the cheese!
first locate where the are entering from holes or cracks in the walls or floorborads mark them go to a hardware store and buy some steel wool and fill the cracks the steel wool has to be changed every 3 months or leave a cap full of coke a cola in each room but the down side is if they die in the wall well u know you
CAT. We had rat problems and the landlord could never get rid of them. Pest company, traps, etc. So I got a cat, even though I wasn't supposed to. WORKED great. He never said anything because I think he knew it worked.

Oh, and don't use glue traps unless you want to see live baby mice squealing for their lives. You might not like the mice, but that is the worst thing in the world to see.

Why does the heterozygote mice survive even though it has a dominant lethal gene?

In mice, the lethal gene is dominant and it codes for yellow fur. The recessive gene codes for grey fur. According to various sources, even though the lethal gene is dominant, but the heterozygote of this gene does not cause the mice to die.Why does the heterozygote mice survive even though it has a dominant lethal gene?
The simple answer is that the Agouti yellow lethal gene (Ay) is pleiotropic. It is dominant with respect to yellow color and certain other phenotypes, but not dominant with respect to lethality because it is only lethal in a homozygous condition. Further, it is not specifically the Ay allele that is the lethal gene, but a closely linked gene that is disrupted by a small deletion that causes the Ay allele. It is confusing, but the adjective dominant in the phrase dominant yellow lethal, only refers to yellow (dominant yellow) and it is just understood by people working in the field that the gene is dominant yellow and is homozygous lethal, so in basic genetics terms, it is dominant with respect to yellow, but not with respect to lethality. However, rather than worry about the dominant or recessive nature of the mutation, researchers have gone on to characterize the mutation and it appears to be a small deletion that causes disruption of another gene (Raly), that is normally required expressed and if the mutation is homozygous results in preimplantation lethality.

Here are a couple of websites that explain further:

    http://www.ndsu.edu/instruct/mcclean/pls鈥?/a>

    http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/picrend鈥?/a>

    http://www.genesdev.org/cgi/content/abst鈥?/a>

Hope this helps! Why does the heterozygote mice survive even though it has a dominant lethal gene?
    Because the mouse is heterozygous.

Heterozygous organisms posess gene pairs consisting of a dominant and a recessive gene. The dominant gene expresses some characteristic, even if paired with a recessive gene. Basically, this term is just a fancy way of calling something a ';hybrid';.

The lethal gene codes for yellow fur, but is not lethal unless both genes code for yellow fur. This is known as a homozygous individual, since both genes are identical. Most people call these ';pure strains'; because all their offspring always express the same traits. Hybrids (heterozygotes) will not ';breed ture';.

The heterozygous mouse has yellow fur because the fur color gene is dominant. However, the particular gene sequence which is lethal is not domant and must pair with an identical gene sequence before this trait is expressed. Many genetic disorders are due to recessive traits.

What kind of proteins might be good for hamsters and mice?

I've given our two rodents crickets, and they both like them. The mouse also seems to like meal worms. Any other ideas? We try and keep a good diet for them. They get fresh vegies and stuff from outside as well as they're food. The hamsters get two to three Yogurt treat things per day. What kind of proteins might be good for hamsters and mice?
I give my hamsters cheese, cooked meat, and cooked eggs. The yogurt treats are good, but I would not give them that many. You can try to give the hamster meal worms also. Dog treats are a favorite of many hamsters. Good luck.

They'll start nibbling solid food around 2/3 weeks of age, and will be eating just solid food by 3/4 weeks. (at which time your friend needs to get the boys out of there!) They should be ready for new homes at 4/5 weeks.

  • When mice or mouse enter your house do they stay or do they go out?

I saw a mice/mouse yesterday coming in my living room and going out again about 4 or 5 times, my parents say dont worry they are scared of Humans and will go out of the house as they feel scared in a house, but i dont know what to do, i can set traps but wondering if they work all the time or not, we've blocked all holes we had aswell. When mice or mouse enter your house do they stay or do they go out?
usually if you see a mouse there is more than one mouse in your house, they will find a food source so any pet food left down or on the sides will be eaten any bread or even crumbs on the floor will be eaten, they will breed it is nice and warm in a house and there is usually a constant food supple close at hand, they won't always leave but will come out when you are in bed, if you see mice in your house then i would set traps, it is not just the health risk (they run along and constantly pee and poo) but also they will chew wiring, we had a power cut and when we checked we found a mouse had chewed the wiring and shorted the whole house, luckily they did not cause a fire, we had mice with 3 terriers running looses so if they ain't scared of dogs who tried to hunt them they are not going to be scared of people, you have done well to block the holes but leave one open and place a trap there, they will take the bait and you should get them, we caught our mice with fresh bread and peanut butter, but you may have to move the trap around as if there is more than one they will smell the death of one and avoid that area, place traps where you know they are running and keep setting them, if you think you have got them all leave the traps down for 3 weeks after you last saw a mouse, we made the mistake of only trapping for two weeks after and then the babies came out and it all started again, best of luck honey, they need to go as they cause so much damage in the walls that you don't see. When mice or mouse enter your house do they stay or do they go out?
Mice go wherever there is food. If there is an easily accessible food source in your house, they won't leave (not for good anyway). It's good that you've blocked the holes, but they're might be some you don't know about. You should set traps.

Also, you can use poison. Rodent poisons are actually anti-coagulants, which cause mice to bleed to death internally. The only problem with this is, the mouse could die somewhere you can't get to it and you'll end up with a terrible stench in your house for a few days.
Was it one mouse 4 or 5 times, or 4 or 5 mice?

They're always exploring and they'll stay if they find food...

and if you've blocked those holes with them inside.....

Why not think of them as easy care pets?
hi, usually they stay especially if they hav a family, i was told by an expert that they can get in through vent holes (well lets put it this way if you can fit a biro/pen in to a hole then a mouse can fit through that, but dont go blocking up your vents ok?
if you are a slob and leave food lying around they will stay in the house, if not they will go out at night and forage in the woods
they come in when its winter and leave in the summer!
    just get a cat
They usually breed in the house and spread disease by peeing on everything.

When did you start feeding your corn snake live mice?

At what age was he/she big enough?

How did you prepare her for it?

Have you ever had any complications with live feeding? When did you start feeding your corn snake live mice?
Well, you can start feeding them live from their hatch date, so there's no preparing. However I recommend using frozen/thawed for a few reasons. One, it can be dangerous for the snake. I have a picky Ball Python who won't touch frozen/thawed food and several of her prey items try to bite her. Not only that, but a few times, she killed her prey and refused to eat it. Live food also gets very expensive as your snake needs larger meals. Frozen/thawed food is cheap, not dangerous and you can keep a large amount for a long time. Also, if the snake refuses a meal for w/e reason, you have to feed and take care of the mouse until the snake DOES eat it, where as frozen/thawed mice can be refrozen and not worried about. I can't stop you from feeding live, but there are the pros and cons lol. Good luck with your corn snake ^^When did you start feeding your corn snake live mice?
snakes can eat live food from the time of their birth.

The food must be properly sized for them, around the size of their head-2x bigger then their head.

They should natually take to live food readily with no transition required.

The downfall is if you opt not to pre-kill or stun the mice the snake could recieve bite wounds from the mouse if the snake does not strike at the mouse's head. Also do not leave live mice in the snake cage unattended as there is always the chance the mouse could injuire your snake. Food that has not been frozen also can transmit certin worms from the prey animal to the snake.
I have started feeding my adult corn snake live mice when it was a year old my baby corn snake i am now feeding baby mice live pinkies.

I got her to eat her live mice on accident i had to put a mouse down and her cage was the only one that was open. So i put it in there. the next thing i new i see her wrapped around the mouse.

I have had one problem with feeding live mice. Miss strikes. Biting in the wrong place when my snake bites in the wrong place the mouse bites it. The worst problem i ever had is when she bit it by the tail.
Never started i have always been on frozen.

It is alot better for your snake,

no chance in it getting injuried.(:

It will have to be non-toxic as I have kids. I have already tried traps and they are just ignored by the rodents. What is the best way to get rid of mice?
mice are real tricky! Took me 3 nights straight to catch mine, cause he could eat the treats right out of the snap trap without setting it off!

How about getting a cat? What is the best way to get rid of mice?
A friend of mine has a cabin in Maine, and every year they go up it's infested with mice. What her family has done with great success is this:

They put a ton of peanut butter in the bottom of a tall vase, with a plank of wood leading ramplike to the top of the vase. The mice are attracted to the peanut butter and walk up to the ramp before falling down into the vase. They can't get out, and when my friends look in the next morning, there are always a bunch of mice with peanut butter all over their whiskers, peering out as cute as they can be. My friends then take the vase with the mice in it, drive it far away, and dump the mice somewhere in the woods.

Try it out! If it works, you should get some adorable pictures of mice, as well as ridding yourself of them. I'm a big fan of this, because, unlike snap traps or glue traps, it's completely harmless. As long as your kids don't eat the peanut butter!
Glue traps, just put them where the kids can't step on them
Try oil of peppermint. You can find it in health food stores or specialty stores. Place a cotton ball with a drop of oil of peppermint on it along walls where mice like to run

What is a humane way of getting rid of mice?

My family and I recently discovered signs of mice in our house and I am wondering if there are any humane ways of getting rid of mice rather than having to resort to mouse traps. The cheap mouse traps we purchased have not been working well for us. Please, No smart aleck answers. What is a humane way of getting rid of mice?
Go to a Farm Supply store and purchase a live trap. You can then turn them loose elsewhere once caught. What is a humane way of getting rid of mice?
know with the feel good answer of catch and release, realize you are releasing a scared animal, that are very competitive and combative towards others of their kind, who is dropped off in areas where they don't know where to find food and shelter, will more than likely die a much more stressful if not violent death than snap traps. Along with you traping an animal that is resistant to certain illnesses and now released in a new area exposing that population to possible viruses that they are not immune to, instead of killing the original one, now killing numbers of them.

Does anyone know alternative ways to get rid of mice?

I have mice in my kitchen. I tried traps, but I would prefare to deter them from comming at first place. Is there a way to get rid of them other than setting a trap?Does anyone know alternative ways to get rid of mice?
I use to have mice in my old flat - try an electronic repellent from B%26amp;Q / Homebase or similar (less than 拢10). It plugs into the mains and emits a high pitched noise that humans can't hear but that mice can - this makes it uncomfortable for them to be in the vicinity of the repellant and they will go. It worked perfectly in my flat! Although i don't think you can use it if you have pets...Does anyone know alternative ways to get rid of mice?
    Get a Cat
buying a cat? i had a cat in my old place %26amp; never got mice. this creates another problem tho! vet bills, cat food %26amp; neighbours getting annoyed when ur cat craps on their lawn %26amp; not ur own. a small price to pay for no mice tho im sure u will agree
Decon or Borax mixed with syrup ,The borax and syrup is great on rats
Get some expanding foam and try to seal up all the places you think they are getting in, it works, seals the hole right up, mice can also fit through the smallest cracks too, so just seal away.
dip them in various colours of sugar-frosting. sell them at church fetes. tell the kids that they're *supposed* to be crunchy.
get a cat or phone pest control for help
find out where they come in and either block it or put something in there that they cant get past, make sure you dont leave any food out that they can smell too.
    Get a cat
    geta cat
Steel wool in the holes or expanding filler seem to do the job OK. Cats may sound fine but I've got one who catches the things somewhere else and brings them home alive - and a big soft tom cat who's scared of mice.
try putting a very strong glue down...theyll get stuck to it ahahahahaha
Get a cat... two would be better!!!!! They would leave .....real quick!!!!!!
Mice dont like peppermint..so grow a few plants and perhaps make some sachets with the leaves and place them around where they come in. Or ...get a cat.
You have to check around the outside and inside walls and the floors. They can come through the heat ducts, too. We pulled out the trim around the wall and put metal mesh hardware cloth down where the floor meets the wall and replaced the trim.

I have put steel wool pads in holes under the kitchen cabinets. Look for their holes and block them. Find their nest areas, clean them out and keep those areas clear.

Check around the foundation for spaces and fill them with foam.

Get a good cat or two. Cats are the final solution for mice.

We found a person with an animal control business who found all the holes in one of our rentals. He put traps out, and filled in the holes etc. It cost around $150.00 including the follow up visits. It's only been 6 weeks or so, so I am not sure if the benefit will last or not.
try wire wool in the holes they cant bite their way through it
    a cat
Seal EVERY hole and crack with steel wool. I have found the sticky traps work best. I add peanut butter and this works EVERY time. I don't really like Decon as the mice may get behind a wall and die - nasty. Mice are worse as winter approaches so get busy and fill those cracks.
I don't know how you would get some, but my family used humane traps. It looked like a tiny cage... you slide a cracker with peanut butter in a slot, the mouse walks in, and springs the back door closed. Then, we took it outside of town and dropped them off (it was on my dad's way to work.)

Now, I have mice as pets!
yes indeed. ask your local pest controller about ultrasonic devices, they are excellent for repelling rodents and insects.
Get a cat. They also kill insects.
save a cat from your local shelter and the mouse will pack his bags quick.
They can get through openings as small as a dime, so block off everything. If you don't stop them ASAP, they will nest %26amp; have babies in your house- a real thrill.
    Land mines?
I bought an electrical device, which guaranteed to deter them with a high pitch wine --- I came home and found a live happy mouse sitting on top off it ---- get a cat!
Adopt a cat. Sorry that is the only one I know of. I do not believe the electronic devices work. I tried the ones that supposedly repelled mosquitoes. It didn't work. I am told that just the scent of a cat can deter rodents from moving in. Try fostering a cat if you do not wish to adopt long term.
    a cat
if you do use traps use the humane ones so the mouse isn't hurt at all then you can release the mouse outside.

What is the age of sexual maturity in baby mice?

I have baby mice and I'm wondering when it's OK to separate males and females. What is the age of sexual maturity in baby mice?
they should be seperated at four weeks of age. they are able to start breeding between then and five weeks. What is the age of sexual maturity in baby mice?
A rats sexual maturity is about 5 weeks as soon as they don't need to be breast fed by the mother move them. They can breed almost immeadiatety afterwards....
when it's starts doing things on its own
shadow eclipse is right. we breed them for snake food.
Wow! Why the hell do have mice! Pimpin wierd! Don't ever talk to me! Ur screwed!
Depending on Sp. and the amount of food they get. 1 to 1.5 months is about average for the usual pet store type of mouse. Just to make sure I would separate them after the 3rd week. Just to be on the safe side.
    I'd seperate them straight away

  • What's the best way to get rid of mice or rats in the backyard?

I saw a few mice or rats in my backyard. I'm not an expert, so I don't know exactly what it was, but it looked about 7-8 inches long. I want to get rid of them, and I don't care if my ways are humane or not. I'm disgusted by them however, so a trap would be least preferable option since it will require handling of the rodents. Is there something I could use, either something smelly or a high-pitched sound generator of some sort that would drive them away? I don't have any other pets, so interference of the signal with pets is irrelevant. What's the best way to get rid of mice or rats in the backyard?
    1. you could bait them...but you must use a lockable trap to avoid children ,pets or non target animal getting to them

2 you should be able to buy cage type traps which use no poisons and do not hurt the animal....the advantage of this is if what you think is a rat may be a native animal and you can release it in a suitable location...

if they are rats you can kill or release them

you can make a trap your self for outside.....buy some PVC pipe ....cut into a lenght that young kids can't reach the middle

drill a hole both side of the pipe at centre of length

then wire in wax block rodent baitsWhat's the best way to get rid of mice or rats in the backyard?
Use mice and rat poison. They come in packets, and the mice will chew through the paper and eat the poison. good luck.
I agree, cats are ferocious killing machines with an unquenchable thirst for flood. Other than that i'd say invest in a bb gun and some beer to pass those long evenings of target practice.
Why not get a cat and keep it in the backyard.

What is the best way to kill rats and mice that are coming into the house. what places do you leave the bait?

i live in the valley here in northern calif. and i have tried traps and d-con pellets nothing seems to be working. also i live in the city limits were its all housing and my house gets cleaned on a daily bases. What is the best way to kill rats and mice that are coming into the house. what places do you leave the bait?
I would recommend traps. Try using cheese or peanut butter. Place the traps in a dark area maybe behind appliances or beside your trash cans. Peanut butter sticks to the trap better. Makes it a little harder for the little varmints to steal it.What is the best way to kill rats and mice that are coming into the house. what places do you leave the bait?
you will put a mosquito mat for it .it is a best solution which i think so
shot gun them they eventually will move on
Since nothing has worked so far, I'll tell you about an article on read in the paper or yahool news.

You'll need a loaf of bread. Put ';hot sauce'; on bread and let bread dry with hot sauce on it.

Since mice will follow along the baseboards, that would be a good place to put the hot sauce bread. Don't know about the route that rats take, but would think the same as mice.

They did this at Arizona Zoo in Aviary area, because they were over run by mice. All mice disappeared without even eating the hot sauce bread. It must be the hot sauce that made them run off.

I know people use hot sauce in gardens to keep critters away and other places for the same reason. So this makes sense to me. We plan on doing the same thing at our hunting cabin in the north woods of Wisconsin. I think it's worth giving it a try. Throw some on your front porch too (that's my suggestion),

If this works, we all can get rid of our mouse traps. Sounds like a deal to me.

Didn't you get hit with fire, rain, wind? Don't have to tell me that you clean on daily bases. Never thought any different.

Even if you didn't get fully hit, your probably experiencing the aftermath.

Niece lives in Souther Calf. .... Long Beach, but still worry. We were all keeping up with the harsh conditions. We have also been experiencing drought here too. What can I say. The words don't come.

I really hope the hot sauce bread works. At lease we can give them a run from the hot sauce.

Good Luck...plan on visiting in a couple months
Mice really do have poor eyesight and rely heavily on their whiskers to travel around a room, they like to be able to touch these hairs close to the baseboard if the room. Place traps where you have seen mouse droppings, inside your pantry door, behind the garbage cans, and beside the refrigerator and dishwasher in the kitchen. Just make sure the traps are flush against the wall. Glue traps seem to work best especially if they are baited with peanut butter or bacon.

I've had great success with this trap in my house:

    http://veganstore.com/index.html?stocknu鈥?/a>

I've caught over ten mice with it so far and it can be used over and over indefinitely. Or, you can try making the free homemade humane trap described here:

    http://www.helpinganimals.com/wildlife_l鈥?/a>

If you do live trap mice, please be sure to check the traps several times a day and release the mice promptly, approximately a mile away from your home. It is much more cruel to allow a mouse in a live trap to slowly starve to death than to kill it quickly with a snap trap. Also, if you use the live traps outside, put a little bedding (paper towels or cotton balls) inside the trap so the mice won't freeze to death during the night. When you release the mice, do it in an area with some sheltering bushes or plants. If you are a kind person, you might also leave a little bird seed or oatmeal for them.

The absolute cruelest traps are glue traps. Mice have been known to gnaw off their own limbs and tear off their skin in an effort to escape, as they starve or dehydrate to death or suffocate in the glue. Poison isn't any better, as the mice die slowly and painfully from internal bleeding. It can take up to a week for them to die.

We've had many mice in our house, and we've never caught anything from them. Of course, you will want to use common sense and use an antibacterial-type solution to clean where they have left droppings. Wash your hands well after handling traps.

Good luck! What is the best way to kill and prevent mice from invading your home?
Get a good mouser(aka cat). Set up traps anywhere you think they are getting in. Keep setting them until they all come up empty. You can also plug any holes around your foundation. Mice hate steel wool, that will work if your short on cash. Or try putting down some peppermint oil near their holes. I read that in a book, it worked for me. Remember the darker and larger they are, the older they are. You have to catch the mom and dad plus all the babies or they'll keep reproducing. Also, put your food in containers, like tupperware, something they can't chew through.
Decon will kill them. Set it under sinks, in cabinets, beside fridge. Their droppings carry the Hanta Virus and probably more. Not to mention fleas. You can contact me through my avatar.
I got the mouse pads at bugsaway.com, they work !
get an alley cat or a barn cat.

I found detailed information at http://www.pests.in

What type of mice are most common in Massachusetts?

The mice I find here are very small with gray-brown fur and have ((what I can best describe as)) an elongated pear-shape body. I'd say they're about one and a half inches long excluding the tail. ((They're really cute, actually))

I don't have a picture of the mice, but since I use humane live traps in my house I always see them before I release them into a field. If anyone has any ideas as to what type of mouse this is, I'd appreciate it.What type of mice are most common in Massachusetts?
Do they have white bellies? Without a picture, my first guess would be either deer mice or white-footed mice. They are very similar in appearance and closely related. The best way to tell them apart is that deer mice generally have a sharply contrasted bicolored tail (white on the bottom, gray or brown on top), and the colors on the tails of white-footed mice do not contrast near as much.

Another possibility is the house mouse, which doesn't have a white belly.

There are also jumping mice in Massachusetts (http://www.hubbardbrook.org/image_librar鈥?/a> ) which have really big back feet and a more blunted face than the murids. The jumping mice are probably not as common as the others.

Is having a cat an effective way to eliminate mice from my home?

I live in a house with 15 people and we have mice. We tried humane solutions for about a year with not good results, so we tried the poison traps, which worked beautifully. Then we got a cat to kill the mice (and because we love cats anyway). It doesn't seem to be helping with the mice, but now we can't use poison traps because we do not want to poison the cat inadvertently. Will the cat eventually kill all the mice, or do we need to do something more, and what should we do?Is having a cat an effective way to eliminate mice from my home?
it will only kill the mice if you dont feed it. go back to poison but use the cat proof covered ones.Is having a cat an effective way to eliminate mice from my home?
No. You might have less mice, but if my several cats don't completely eliminate mice your one cat won't either. Your best bet is to take away the mice's food - store all grains, cereal, pasta in sealed plastic containers or in the freezer. Store your dry cat/dog food in trash cans or bins that are mouse-proof. Get rid of piles of newspaper %26amp; magazines, old cardboard boxes, furniture that is leaking its stuffing, the things mice like to make their nests out of. If they don't find what they need in your house they will look for it elsewhere. Congratulations for first trying the humane solutions :)
    All cats don't kill mice.

Plus, if they start eating them you've got the expense of vet bills to get rid of the worms.

Use traps, or poison in places that are inaccessible.
A cat has to be taught that mice are good to catch and eat. If your cat has a full food bowl all the time and has never tried mice, it may find them curious. But, it doesn't know that they're food. And, they should be taught at a young age.

I lived in a trailer that had mice and got a cat as a kitten. I left him outside all the time, which was fine with him. One day, I found a baby mouse in the driveway. It was still alive, and so young that it was hairless and hadn't opened its eyes yet. So, I started playing with the mouse with my kitten, pawing it back and forth with him. After a few minutes, I turned my back on him and turned back in time to see him carrying the baby mouse off to eat it.

About a month later, I noticed that the cat wasn't eating his food. But, I also noticed that I didn't hear mice scurrying around the walls and attic anymore.

I used to watch the cat sitting patiently in front of a clump of grass or something, listening intently. Then all of a sudden, he would dip his paw into the clump and flip his paw, and a mouse would come flying out. The cat would torment the mouse for a while until it was near death, and then carry it off to eat it. Sometimes, I would get a stick or whatever and knock the mouse around, playing with the cat. He liked that. And, interestingly enough, he never left any ';trophies'; in front of the door like some cats are known to do.
We moved into a house that had a mice problem and already had a cat. It's been a year and 10 mice later she only caught and killed one. So I would say that no, they aren't really effective.

What you gotta do is investigate where they run to when they get scared or where they may be entering from, look for where they poop the most. Then set your trap there. Most of the time they went behind the stove or fridge and the cat couldn't get there and is where we'd set the traps at.

But no matter what you do, you can never fully get rid of mice. We've tried everything and are extremely clean people (no clutter, clean up kitchen after cooking very well) and yet we seemed to get a couple mice every two or three months. We haven't had one since January but we're crossing our fingers cuz it's just plain gross and not to mention diseases that are easily spread and I have my two little kids that I worry about.

Just stay consistent, we used regular mouse traps and put peanut butter or cookie crumbs on it and works every time. They might not bite the first day but eventually they did.

  • What is the best way to get red of mice?

Or how can I keep them out atleast. Is there something that can go around the outside of my house to ward them off or anything? What is the best way to get red of mice?
Mice come for food, same with rats, if you can have a cat at your residence, get one, if not, try using some pesticides from your local hardware store. They are somewhat messy because if they hide within the walls, they could very much stink up your house. There are also those black boxes you see outside business's. Try them and see if that helps with your problem. What is the best way to get red of mice?

Oh please, just go to the hardware store (Ace, Menards, etc.) and ask one of the workers. They can direct you.

pour a little bleach on the bags befor u put them in the can.
I have heard of peppermint oil, but, I would not put any kind of urine down... you can buy live traps, to catch them and let them go somewhere else... Walmart, Hardware stores, or you can close a cat up in the garage with a litter pan for a few days... you won't have to see them die and the cat will love the snacks...

What is the best way to get rid of mice, without having to call in pest control?

We have a few mice living in our kitchen. I'm worried they'll multiply unless we sort out the problem. We don't want to poison them becasue they might die behind the counters where we can't find them and then decompose and leave a bad smell. Please help! What is the best way to get rid of mice, without having to call in pest control?
Get a cat!!!What is the best way to get rid of mice, without having to call in pest control?
Use traps, if you don't sort it they will multiply. Poison is effective, we put poison down as they were living in between the floor boards, it did work, but for a week after the smell was terrible, although it soon dispersed.

I know traps do seem cruel, but the death is usually pretty instant, you can buy card sheets that trap the mouse using a very strong glue, but then you have to dispose of a live mouse that you know will die, or kill it yourself, which isn't pleasant.
use a pair of hob nail boots
How about traps - not that kind to the mice but if you want to kill them it's pretty much a trap, poison or a cat! There are supposed to be natural ways to get rid of them - I think it's the smell of mint and, if you are in the UK, there is a special plug in thing which I think emits a high frequency pitch only mice can hear and it scares them. With the plug in though it's quite expensive (around 拢15 from DIY shops) and you might need one in each room. Good luck with the pesky things!
buy some mouse traps.. humane ones if your feeling kind.. and no matter what anybody tells you always use chocolate.. the little devils cannot resist chocolate..
Poison is the only way. They quite often die at the feeding table.

Mice do not like moth balls, put some under the counters and where they are coming in
get a snake, or a cat
    get a hungry cat
You can buy mouse traps for about a quid from B%26amp;Q (or similar shops). Then you will know exactly where to look for dead ones!
mouse traps with peanut butter. I put three under the sink one time and within one hour caught three. Do this for a week- go out and buy about four traps and set all of them at once in different places. After you catch a bunch, put out poison baits to make sure they will not return. Chances are you must have several in your house-kill them with traps first.
i discover that victor makes a prebaited trap. i bought 2 of them and caught 12 mice within 12 hours. they really work.
My two terriers are excellent - its all over really quick - REALLY!!!!!
    Buy a cat
One of my friends has a cabin in the woods and only visits periodically. My friend advised me to place a small plate(she jsut uses small plastic paper plate) in all rooms with mothballs on them.she also places mothballs outside the cabin.
First start by sealing up all the spots that you think that they may be getting in.(cracks in foundation, around doors + windows, + pipes) Use that foam in a can.....then clean your house. put all the food away, so there is nothing for them to eat. If they are getting in your cabinets and eating boxed food, then get containers to store the boxed food in.(new metal garbage cans with lids work well) then set traps out. you can get the glue traps for baby mice, they usually eat what is in the spring trap but do not trigger the spring and spring traps for the adults.( use cold bacon fat) You'll be cleaned up in no time.
a cat or a border terrier they are both pretty efficient killers and wont leave a mess

What is the best way to get rid of mice in the house?

Duh. You have her protecting the yard from rodents? What is the best way to get rid of mice in the house?
Call a pest professional to come see where they may be coming in from. He/She will seal off all the entry points and then lay poison for the ones inside to die. Also they put out glue traps, gross, but they work.
    Get cats!
Bringing the cat indoors might help - it will certainly be more effective than having the cat outdoors.

Or, get traps. I would certainly recommend using humane traps that don't kill the mice but only contain them. You can then release them far away.
yeah get cats 5 of them really because its been proven that 5 cat together kill about 5 mice every 5minutes so the mice would be gone in no time.
Yep, bring her in and you won't have mice!
Bring the cat in, set traps in your cabinets out of reach of the cat (remember they can jump high and squeeze through small places) with some peanut butter on them (not cheese, they like sweet things best), and stick used S.O.S pads in any gaps you can stick your little finger in that lead outside, to the basement, and or any place you think they could be getting into your house from(they wont chew through those). A big thing is to put away ALL of your food where they can't get to it (cabinets without holes, refrigerator, Tupperware containers) and keep in mind they WILL chew through plastic bags and any sort of candy wrappers. If there is food out they will eat it and avoid the traps, even bubble gum (trust me).

How far away from my home should I release mice caught in a live trap?

How far away from my home should I release mice caught in a live trap? What's to keep them from coming back inside my home? I don't want to cause their death, but I don't want to live w/them!!! If I release when it's subfreezing, will they be okay? Any advice on this topic would be appreciated. How far away from my home should I release mice caught in a live trap?
well, to keep them from coming back you probably need to release them several miles from your home. the bad news is that once you release them they are as good as dead. they have no shelter or reliable food sources. How far away from my home should I release mice caught in a live trap?
drop them in a open field far away from your house. there they should get plenty of food.
Just drop them off where they will be someone else's problem. They are clever so it should take them no time to find warm shelter and food. If not, well, then they just die a slow painful death.

    [/sarcasm]

How can i prevent my cats from bringing dead mice into the house?

We just moved to the country, so the cats are going crazy catching mice. I can't stand finding them lying throughout the house. I have a 1 year old and am very nervous that he'll find the mice before me!How can i prevent my cats from bringing dead mice into the house?
If the cats are going outside and bringing mice inside, you might want to consider making them indoor only cats. Since you have a 1 year old, its not safe to allow the cats to roam outside and then come inside around the baby. Cats get parasites and worms from mice. How can i prevent my cats from bringing dead mice into the house?
Well, I don't think you are going to be able to do this if you don't restrict the cat's access to the house. Are you sure the mice aren't inside already? All it takes is a tiny crack for them to squeeze through. Those cats may be clearing out the indoor population!

I've had cats all my life. They hunt by nature and they bring you ';presents'; to ';mother'; you. They are trying to keep you healthy by bringing you good things to eat.

So, until they get the mouse population under control they will be catching them up. The winter may help bring it to a halt.

You will just have to keep an eye on the cats when they come in the house. Good Luck!
don't let your cat go outside your house so that it can not bring dead mice inside your house. [lock it up, =%26gt; joke]. [or may be thier are some mice in your house.] get a pest control.
    keep your cats inside!!!!!!
Well actually you should know that cats bring the mice as a present to you. They only do that if they love you a lot and they get confused when you are not acting happy once you find them!LOL.I think that there isn't much you can do about it,maybe if you throw them away every time and say no to them as soon as you find one while holding it in front of them they will get the message but still I wouldn't count on it.

Just be on the lookout whenever you see a cat coming towards the house.
Awww, the kitty love you! =) I know how you feel, guess you should either make him an indoor or an outdoor cat, or get rid of him.
    give it a spank
try to keep your cat indoors for some months and train it on how eat only good foods and not dead mice,i hate them too.
I'm not real big on cats but they usually do this to bring you a gift and/or they think they are providing food for you since you take care of them. Cats are kind of weird sometimes. I had a tom cat once that took my daughters fuzzy stuffed TY beany baby kitten off her bed and hid under the bed protecting it for days until it finally decided it was a dead kitten I guess and abandoned it. weird. I would look for a book on cat behavior to see if there's someway to get it to stop bringing you offerings. :)
when she does that, kick her in her butt...
The cats are bringing you the mice as a gift.I'm sure a gift you'd rather do without.Give them praise for their gift but leave the cats outside. It doesn't hurt them to stay outside, you're teaching them their boundaries.
if you have that many mice in your house you might want to call an exterminator.
Get rid of the cat! Get rid of the cat flap! Move house and leave the cat behind!
Uuuuhhh, how are they getting INTO the house with the deads???? Close the cat door, or however they are getting into the house!!!! That is gross. They will not stop bringing them home, but they need to keep them OUTside!!!!!!!!
Call an exterminator, explain you have a mouse problem. Get RID of the cat and welcome to living in the country. You will have mice. It's just one of the joys of living in the county.

OH, just a bit of info. I have dogs and live in the country, have for 30+ years and I've had very few mice. My neighbours have 2 cats, both Maine Coons, and they are over run with mice.

    Makes me wonder.
Search them when they come in.
The cat is trying to impress you. You should be proud of the cat. Praise it and pet it. Then give the mouse back to the cat. Then take them both outside.

A few trips of this and the cat will start keeping the mice outside.
    kill the cat
If they're bringing dead mice into the house, make sure there's no way they can get in unless you let them in. The cats will still catch mice, but you can train them to leave them at the door. Cats are hunters by instinct, so you shouldn't scold them for catching mice. The best way to handle it is to praise them (yes, you heard me right) when they come to the door with mice and take the mice away from them before you let them in the house. Eventually, the cats will learn to simply drop them at the door.
its a gift from your kitty, dont throw it away infront of the cat of it will feel like he has done wrong in someway, its a natural act for cats to hunt rodents
Cats bring you mice because they want to ';give'; you something back! it is sort of pride and love.

I am not sure how to stop them, but as the mice population thins this will happen less often. I grew up with cats on a small farm and know that is what cats do!

You might have them bring the mice to a certain place and reward them by petting and praise for dropping them at one place.

  • What is the best way to get rid of mice?

Some friends were storing old clothes for us and when we brought the clothes back home, we brought mice with them!

Now we can't seem to get rid of them! Poison is untouched, they scrape the peanut butter and dog food off of snap traps. What is the best way to get rid of mice?
Traps really are your best bet. If they are able to scrape stuff off of your traps then you either have the wrong kind, or your traps are too small for the size mice you have. Go get some new ones (mice and rats can smell their blood on a used trap and won't go for it), get both sizes of traps (for the babies and the grown ups), and press bread on the plate/trigger, really mash it on there good so they can't just pluck it off. Don't use a lot either, just enough to get them there. Not so much that they can nibble the bread and not set off the trap.

Then set the traps out where ever you think the mice might be; under the sink, closets, behind the entertainment center, in the garage, etc. Anywhere dark and semi-sheltered. And make sure that the traps are the only source of easily accessed food for them, otherwise they will bypass the trap for, say, the bag of dog food. We keep our dog food in a metal trash can for this very reason.

Also you want to do a walk around your house and make sure there are no small holes or crevices they are getting in, plug any such holes (even as small as a quarter) with steel wool. Rats can eat everything else, but not steel wool.

My parents live next to a field and every couple of years some mice find their way into the house and this is what you have to do. Poisons don't always give you the results you want. Many a summer have we had to live with the acrid smell of decomposing rat because they ate the poison and died in the attic or wall. So personally I wouldn't use the poisons. Just set the traps out, several at a time and keep setting them until you don't catch anymore. What is the best way to get rid of mice?
If you go to a local home improvement center and ask for a mice deterrent that squeaks. I don't know what its called but you plug it in and put it in a closet or cupboard. Oh wait my husband just said they are called a Sonic Pest Chaser. Also seal your dried food goods like cereal or flour in Plastic containers. If there is no food source and its annoying for them to be there they will leave. Supposedly they are cheaper than nightlights but they work the same way.
Use the tubular traps which drop closing the hatch behind them or use Almonds on snap traps!! Poor little Cutie pie dont you know that mice dont actually go for cheese as much as peanut butter, you obviously are a city girl!!!
Mice will inhibit a place where there is food, water, and shelter. Take those away and they will be gone. A cat or two would also help.
a couple of things set up a ton of the mouse traps

    buy a cat

    clean everything

put cheese on the traps they like it more

What is the best way to get rid of mice?

I don't have any pets or children. I have noticed a mouse running around at night. I took a good look around and found some droppings (I think). I've never had this problem before. I want to nip this in the bud before winter sets in and they come inside. I set a trap with peanut butter and caught one last night, however I know that there are probably more. If I set out poison, how can I find the bodies? Will they die immediately, or do they drag the poison back to their nest? Will they spread the poison to the rest of the mice in the nest? What are the favorite hiding places? What is the most inexpensive and efficient ways to get rid of them?

I'm not interested in getting a cat.

Any suggestions??What is the best way to get rid of mice?
I expect contacting a pest control company would help. They would be able to tell you everything you need to know. What is the best way to get rid of mice?
Try to buy a cat or get mouse trappers ,or mouse poison
leave potato flakes and instant rice around and let him eat. when it mixes with the content of his tummy poof mouse problem gone and no poisoned mickey to deal with
My father had a major infestation and used melted chocolate on a trap. He killed over 30 mice and never had to rebait the trap.
There's only 1 best way to get rid of mice get a Cat it will eat them and roaches
    move to another house..

oh, and the bodies.. find them under your bed
Do a walk around your house and try to find the holes. They can be holes the mouse dug, spots where the pipes go in, anything. Seal them up, put wire grating over them, whatever.

Peanut butter works better than the cheese, so you're doing good there. Most mice figure out how to get the cheese without setting off the trap.

If you use poison, the mice will usually get outside, act sick, and be caught or eaten by something else before they die. They will not spread the poison to other mice. If they die in the house... well, you'll know, and you'll find them after a while, trust me on that.

Mice tend to have tiny holes in the grass, or around trees. If it's bermuda grass, you might never even find them all, but if you've got loads of cheap water, you can flood the lawn. A lot of the mice will drown in the holes, and the rest you can BB, or shovel, or whatever... kind of tough to do though. You might also use one of those root grinder things, and just chew up the whole yard... probably cheaper than all the water you'd need to flush them out anyway, and if yor yard isn't perfectly flat it'll be more effective.

In general though, killing mice outside the house is a waste of time, and you'd be better off... feeding neighborhood cats.. so they bring the mice to other people's homes... or getting a dog or something. They;ll have more time, and won't be as rough on the yard as these other ideas.
If you live in an apartment, ask the landlord for some mouse sticky trap. Or you can buy them at your local store. It's affect because it gives off a sweet scent to attract the mouse and when they step on it, BANG!!!! ....they stick. The thing is that you have to kill it after, yep, dirty job.
Mouse Traps are cheap but are sometimes messy i would advise killing thim with that green poison there like small pelletes they eat that stuff finds a drink and BANG no more mice and if you still leave the poison where it is they will most likely not want to come back.
Some people will suggest a cat, and while a cat can be a very efficient mice-killer, chances are you'll get a lazy one, or worse yet, one who brings in more live mice... like our cat. :)

We used a sticky trap for the ones that our cat brought in; we bought four and set them against each wall in the basement. (Mice like to run along walls and under things; they're nervous about crossing open space.) It worked, and the glue is extremely powerful... so be careful about getting your fingers on it! Only problem is disposing of the mouse after it's been caught... I don't know how you feel about killing it, but it's very hard to free a mouse from the sticky trap.
Put mothballs around where you don't want them.
    mouse traps
I would go to that old fashioned way setting out traps of cheese. Eventually you would get all of them.

I'm trying to get rid of mice. What happens to a mouse when fed a grape or jellybean injected with insulin?

For some reason the mouse that is invading loves Starbuck's Chocolate Pound cake, but in this case jellybeans or grapes will do. I am trying to get rid of it, and traditional traps and glue traps aren't cutting it. Help!!!I'm trying to get rid of mice. What happens to a mouse when fed a grape or jellybean injected with insulin?
Insulin won't do a thing - it will simply be digested by the mouse. If it was as simple as eating it to get an effect then you wouldn't need to inject it into humans.

Obviously there are conventional rodent poisons available in the stores - or you could try glycol-based antifreeze like you put in cars.I'm trying to get rid of mice. What happens to a mouse when fed a grape or jellybean injected with insulin?
Try some of the live traps, although I wouldn't know what to do with them after they are caught! Maybe put some poison outside of your home.
You could use a commercial poison. Insulin may kill it with an overdose, but is an expensive solution if it works. Either way you end up with a dead mouse.
Glue traps are the best method to trap rats and mice . I found detailed information at http://pests.in
Try peanut butter to bait your traps. Works really well for me.
Use the trap - it will probably go in to shock and die with the insulin.

What is the best way to get rid of mice in the long run?

I have the mouse trap with PB down and I have killed many mice but I want a long term solution. We kill two to three mice and then they go away for a couple of weeks and then more come. I am afraid of what Orkin will charge me and I can鈥檛 afford it. Can cats really solve this problem? I have toddlers and I don鈥檛 want to get cats until they are ready. What is the best way to get rid of mice in the long run?
Put down some oatmeal mixed with dried plaster and the mice will eat it and turn there stomachs solid in a few days!!!What is the best way to get rid of mice in the long run?
Put steel wool around any opening or holes under your sinks or in your house. Cats really can solve the problem though, I have one and live near a large field and have not seen one single mouse. Go to the humane society and get an older cat they have the smarts to steer clear of your toddlers when they don't want to be messed with
I don't know, i have never had mice in my long run. :)
    Get a cat.

How does Steinbeck present loneliness and isolation in Of Mice and Men. Refer to the characters in the book?

I've done the majority of the essay question. Can anyone give me some more ideas that will help me boost my grade?

Thanks very much. How does Steinbeck present loneliness and isolation in Of Mice and Men. Refer to the characters in the book?
omg i hated that novel.. i had to do it last term with an essay.. except my question was about the tawdriness of the conditions george and lennie etc faced and depicting nobility from them...

um... well how bout crooks the stable buck? he's been isolated because he's indigenous. the isolation that the men wokring on the ranch try not to have strong friendships with other workers.

candy's wife isolated from the workers and to stay up in the house?

    hope i helped

thank god im over that novel! we had to do it about 'who is the enemy?'; in north american literature of the 20th century.

have funHow does Steinbeck present loneliness and isolation in Of Mice and Men. Refer to the characters in the book?
I hated that book it was horrible, the whole story is crap!!!!

Lonliness is shown in pretty much every character, it has been a while since i read the book so i dont remember thier names but the man who lives by himself because of his colour is always on the outside, Lennie is being told no and being left behind ( george goes to bar), George is always left to take care of lennie with no friends and the curlys wife or something like that is the only woman and is ignored by her husband trapped on a farm.

  • How is of mice and men controversial?

I need a list of reasons why. I have to do a presentation explaining the book, i already read it but i need specific reasons why it is controversial of banned at some place. I already tired looking on the Internet, but they don't have specific reason. How is of mice and men controversial?
It is controversial in the topic of mental illness, that of Lennie.

How to kill mice or rats in your house?

do you any simple household tips for my rodent problem? Like are there common household items that can be used to kill those pesky rats? How to kill mice or rats in your house?
Shoot them!!!!!!!!!!!!!How to kill mice or rats in your house?
Lay any kind of carbonated soda around and let them drink it.. They can't belch so it will kill them..
No, I tried everything when I use to live in the city.

Go and buy Decon and it will kill them within a couple of days. It was the best $2.50 I spent in that city.
USe a sticky mouse trap or the good old mouse trap that snaps their neck in half...use peanut butter....works better than cheese. IF by chance you know where they are coming in, dryer vent or small holes, place steel wool in those areas, mice do not like that...We havent had one this year
I don't know any household items. If you have a bad infestation, I suggest you hire a professional exterminator.

If it is only a problem of one or twe you can deal with it on your own. I suggest you get a the ';sticky'; type of mouse traps. Yes them may still be alive with you find them, but they are in a ';tent'; like cover and you can pick it up by the end and throw them in the dumpters. The spring traps often splatter blood and with poison they like to crawl under the floor board or behind the walls to die and stink up the house/apartment.
    Poison.

    I think it's called D-con

They eat it and die - and of course they smell for a week after they die in you walls.

    --------------------------------------鈥?br>

kitty cat - thats the best way
poison or traps. When it gets really rough seek professional help
borrow someones cat or get your own

Rodent free for 11 years now..... only took three days
Cat. Mouse Trap, but, rinse it after you catch one, it makes a difference, they smell the kill so to say. De-con, most of those kill when they drink water so make sure there no water close to the house. Last, if you find a hole put Steel Wool in it, they know the hole and will try to eat through the Steel Wool since it not belong there. Not sure where they die though with the Steel Wool.
put peanut butter on the rat traps
Get a cat, poison, or mouse/rat traps. Household stuff, try putting bathroom cleaning substances in cheese and see if the rats eat them and die lol.
Just get a cat, it works wonders!!
Don't use poison. Do you really want decomposing rodents in your walls? Use glue traps. Bait them with peanut butter. Throw the trap away mouse and all.
If your allowed to have animals I would definetely get a cat. Mine srarted killing mice when he was just a kitten....havent seen any since.
Well u could take a broom and whack it until it dies! But that's pretty cruel. Also u could like take a bag and gloves and catch the rat and throw it out side!!
I think all you need is a Cat, i tell you give it 3 days all the mouse will be gone.
mouse trap. but rats and mice are cool, you shouldn't kill them.
you can go and hire an externator also buy rat poising
Buy a rat killer pellet and place it at corners.

Use fly paper (it catches mice, just place it where the mice usually goes)

For rats there are trap cages
You should just make your own trap. Get a bucket and a piece of cardboard and place in on top of the bucket. Put some bait in the center... and make a ramp up to the top of it or an incline. When the mouse tries to take the bait, he will fall into the bucket. Why kill them. Just drive it to a field far away or bring it to someone elses house! haha. You can also buy those Harvart traps wich trap them live..but they are kinda expensive. Hope this helps.

What is the best way to get rid of mice from your home?

I have tried glue boards, mouse traps, decon, ect.., but they still come in %26amp; die in wierd places. I saw a book recently on QVC that I think is called Critter Ridder(?). It tells you how to get rid of mice by using peppermint oil (?). I don't have this book , but if someone does, can you look that up for me %26amp; tell me what I need to do to get rid of these mice once %26amp; for all. It's a very old house %26amp; I don't think it's possible (in my situation) to close all of their entry points. Thanks alot !What is the best way to get rid of mice from your home?
How about getting a cat. They are very low matinance, and they will catch your mice for free. What is the best way to get rid of mice from your home?
Sorry, in my opinion none of these answers really addressed my question. Did any of you read my question? A cat, didn't I say I was allergic to them?

call mouse hunters , in the yellow pages
    Get a big cat!
    poison.

bait.. gone in 2 or 3 days..

    decon
Send in the Super Cats. Always work. Guaranteed.
I tried the mouse traps, and after smashing half my fingers off, i trapped the sucker. I set them at night before i went to bed, and just as i was getting cozy for sleeping i heard it go SNAP
I don't know bout the book but moth balls work if it will not affect your child. I have a Chow and two Jack Russels all of which are excellent hunters. However because they hide so well the dogs couldn't catch them in the house.

I had them so bad that they made nest in the top, underneath and the side insulation of my gas oven/stove.

I had to take the stove apart remove all the fiberglass and put in more. Then you clean your house REAL good. Get rid of all OPEN containers with food. Change any cereal/flour/meal products to tightly sealed plastic Rubbermaid or Tupperware containers.

I brought 4 electronic sound devices. I placed one so the sound crosses the patio door, on each side facing each other. I put one behind the stove and another under the kitchen sink. All on the floor.

I also had rat poison down but it didn't stop them. I went to the products web site. They said get rid of all poison cause it is a source of food and will attract the vermin.

I did so and have not had any problems in over 4 years.
    pied piper?
Get those stick-em, pre-glued boards made for that purpose. The instructions say to fold them into a little triangle house, but I just lay them flat, place a dab of peanut butter in the middle, so the mouse must go on the them to get this bait (the boards are scented with a grain type of smell as an attractant, but the peanut butter is what they really go after), and they will stick to them. Discard. Keep them on hand in case of sporadic infestations. These almost always work.
Maybe you should get a cat. You know they love to catch mice.
Actually a cat is not useful if you are infested with mice ... they are good for keeping them away once the infestation is taken care of. I tried every trick also including those silly Ultrasonic sound devices and the only thing that worked for me was to keep setting the traps with peanut butter.

I was getting 3 -4 a day for a week and they finally disappeared. I set up about a dozen along the outside walls and under the cupboards.

    Hi Robert,

Make sure there are no scraps of food or anything the mice might want. I cleared them from my barn by simply eliminating any food.

Is there any human ways of getting rid of mice?

I dont wanna kill em but i want them the **** out of my house. They are shitting and pissing every where and its disgusting. Is there any human ways of getting rid of mice?
Ahhhhh, mice. Last year they had a big party in my basement...started out when I saw one running across my laundry room...I thought well it is just one little guy, maybe this will be it (if you see one mouse he can have at least 20 more little friends just waiting to join the party) Eventually they got into some bird seed and spread it ALL over the basement, tucked it away in blankets, drawers, stuff toys...you name it there was bird seed spread all over...They even ate a stuffed snake that was stuffed with bird seed...and some Xmas ornaments that had been made with bird seed...It took 3 days, 5 hours each day to clean up the mess. I did not want to kill them either until this happened...so i bought two types of traps...the humane kind, that has a little door on it, they walk in get trapped and you have to release them somewhere ( I have been told you have to drive them at least 5 miles from your home to guarantee they won't get back into you house or your neighbors.) As much as I hated it we tried the glue traps which worked well, but they are awful. We ended up catching seven mice in all. You can call an exterminator or use traps to kill...unless you want to turn pest into pet! You have to really clean up the pee and poop as they carry nasty diseases...I had to wash every single stuff toy in our washer and throw out paper and other non washable stuff...it was a mouse nightmare! Cute as they are, you really can't continue having them in the house...they will just make a mess and could even threaten your health. I don't like it, but I did trap most of mine as the humane traps really did not work as well.

Oh, we found how they were getting into our house...a teeny, tiny, hole was at the base of our storm door into the basement...they managed to squeeze in through thay way...Is there any human ways of getting rid of mice?
and that is why you need to kill them, where are they going next?
Wal-Mart or your grocer has traps that are little boxes and the floors of the box is sticky kinda like flypaper and they go in for some reason and get their little feet stuck. If you aren't scared (I am) to pick up the boxes with the mice in them put them in something they CANNOT get out of like a metal whatever and then drive to the country and let them out in a field or close to a source of water and they can live in the wild. But as to why you have them in the first place check your home to make sure they are not coming in through any holes .We had some that were getting under the house and then they came up the water lines under the kitchen sink and I think of all the times I put my hand back there to get something out it just freaks me out so check ALL the entrances where you have water lines, heating and air, dryer vents are a favorite cause it's warm and just close them off.You cannot close your dryer vent up but when not in use pull it out from the floor and sit something heavy there.Hope you are in a place where you can do this. But the little traps I spoke of will not kill them you are just supposed to pick them up and take them to your trash can but I always hauled mine off cause they could have got smushed in the trap and got out and played in the trash can or even got out and back into the house. If you like cats get you one they help too.Good Luck
There are things that you can buy that make a noise that scares them away.
a cat ,its part of life either that or get about 500 mouse live traps ,and get read y to quit your job and spend the rest of your life relocating mice
There are sonic generators that make a noise that is supposed to drive them away. You'd have to run it for a few days before you filled in any holes, so they have a way to get out. Otherwise you need to trap them with a live catch trap.

If you have a basement or crawl space you need to go down there during full sunlight, but put something over the windows to make it dark. You are looking for cracks and holes they can get into.

Holes can be filled with #4 Coarse Steel Wool and then secure it in there with Great Stuff or similar expanding foam. For cracks in block, use the concrete that comes in caulk tubes, works great! Seal all opening with something they can't easily chew through. Steel plates, mortar, etc...

Otherwise you may need to hire a professional exterminator, not to kill them, but to assist you in locating and blocking their entrance ways.
They do have little live traps....but unless you know how they are getting in....you can let them loose outside but they will probably just come back in.
We had mice and roaches after hurricane Rita hit out area. They started off in our garage and found there way into our house. I didn't want to put bit out and have them run off and die so I went to Lowes and found a device that plugs into a wall socket that emits a sound wave. What is an effective way to get rid of mice in my home?

I seem to be having a bit of a mouse problem. A few months ago my husband and I set out mouse traps and ended up catching about 15 within two days. The next four or five days after that there was no activity in the mouse traps. I thought we had finally gotten rid of them but now I'm seeing little mousie turds on my counter tops and have seen one or two crawling out of my oven. It's grossing me out and I was wondering if there was any other way that is effective without having to pay for an exterminator? What is an effective way to get rid of mice in my home?
There's a product called Warfarin that I've used in the past. The mice used to love to get into my mobile summer home.Every spring a big mess!!

I was advised to use this as it kills the mice but they dry up and causes no odor if one happens to die inside.

I placed it in old saucers around my home every fall when I left.

You could place a dish of this behind or inside the bottom of your stove and place others in your basement or wherever.Put them up along the rafters if you have little ones or animals.I've advised others to use this and it's worked well for everyone.Won't take long and you'll have no more mice.

The box may advise it's for rats but it's ok for you to use. It's the owner of our hardware store that told me to use it.What is an effective way to get rid of mice in my home?
Get a cat - short of that move the traps every few days and use peanut butter to entice them.
Why do you think they have exterminators..........because you can't really do it yourself effectively.
Get a kitty cat. We haven't seen evidence of a mouse in our house for years, unless its one they bring to us as a ';gift'; for providing shelter to them! No big fees for exterminator, they are on the job 24/7, and are non-toxic.
Sounds like a major problem, call an exterminator and consider getting a cat

Why would my mice be throwing their bedding into their water bowl?

I have two pet mice, and twice now I have found that they have thrown their bedding into their water bowl. The bedding is just wood shavings, bought from a pet store, the water dish is perfect them, not too deep, not too shallow, yet they are throwing the shavings into the bowl. Any ideas as to why they might be doing this? Why would my mice be throwing their bedding into their water bowl?
Mine all do that, too, and usually top it off by peeing in the bowl. Mice aren't good at using bowls for water, all the recommendations are to use a bottle for exactly this reason. I don't bother with food bowls because they do the same thing--dump the food out, pile shavings in and then pee in it.

And the other poster warning about the wood shavings is right, cedar and pine are aromatic woods and can irritate the lungs of small animals whose noses are in the bedding all the time. Aspen is safe, and the carefresh bedding is safe but more expensive than aspen. Why would my mice be throwing their bedding into their water bowl?
they are trying to hide their food from 'predators' my hammies do this with their food... the best solution is a water bottle... ALSO, what type of bedding are you ujsing? you said wood chips, but if its pine/ceadr get rid of it RIGHT NOW.. they are deadly to small animals. go get some aspen woodchips or carefresh asap!!! =]
They are trying to make burrows, but when they dig they end up throwing the bedding into the water, I had the same problem with my gerbil so I switched to a water bottle on the side of the cage.

    Hope I helped!!
Cause it's there nature instead of using a bowl use a water bottle.
    Making a ';Water Bed';.

What's the best thing to use to keep mice from chewing on the wires under your car hood?

I've heard that you can use moth balls and cayenne pepper. Do you know of any other things I can try? What's the best thing to use to keep mice from chewing on the wires under your car hood?
rat poison placed in stratigic places throughout your underhood area, for example, where you're experiencing chewed wires.

    rid-x works great.

for a safe, non-life-threatening method try moth balls. place a dozen or so in a small paper cup. place it in places such as the poison. have about 4 cups per vehicle. the smell will deter.

or get a cat and hope for the best. i hate cats, i'd rather kill the little son of a gun rodents. What's the best thing to use to keep mice from chewing on the wires under your car hood?
It is not just the wires underneith your hood that you should be worried about. You should also consider the wires everywhere else throughout the entire car. Also to include the wiring that is behind the dash panel. Mice love to chew on wires back there. In fact the whole backside of the dash panel is a mouse paradise. Even the glove box can become a good home for mice as well. Headliners, seats, carpeting, are all good mouse material. I have found that if you have the vehicle parked inside... Doesn't matter where... The mice will find the car. This is what I do to keep mice away... Open the glove box door, open the ash tray's... All of them, open any other compartments, like consols and the like. Open the hood and trunk. roll down the windows as well. If it is possible to park the car in such a way that light can get to it... All the better. Mice hate light. That is why they enjoy the backside of the dash panel... Nice and dark. Same goes for the hood and trunk... When closed, no light. Field day for mice to chew on everything in sight. And they will. As long as there is light showing through, and everything is open, mice don't like it. It works well for me.
There is something called ';Just One Bite';. put them in the corners of where ever the car is parked %26amp; maybe one or two blocks under the hood (they come in a single 8 block piece you have to break them up).

I bought mine at a (hard ware, or feed/farm supply store u may have to google it). about $4.85 a pack. try this %26amp; your rat problem or anything else that bites it will soon be gone.

I was told that the rat bites it its like a food for a hungry rat they just cant resist %26amp; its a peanut butter color except its hard %26amp; its like a slow but baddd poison it makes them very thirsty so they go off looking for water %26amp; they cant find it in time %26amp; they're toast. It sorta likes embalms them inside out so you most likely wont even have a smell if you find one just chunk him away or you could leave him %26amp; let its cousins see the out come if they mess with your wires. ;)
Damn, another question gets a mess of screwballs thinking up answers!

An old sock filled with moth balls has been the best way that works and I have not heard of anything else that works better.

Don't go for the high tech electronic devices, moth balls are cheap and don't fail.
Park you car in such a place which is away from this population like concrete surface or something similar where there are less chances of mice activities.
I would just spray most of the engine bay down with hot sauce (dont hit the headers or you'll be smelling burning hot sauce for the next month)
Keep a cat under the car hood
    leave the engine running
    Moth Balls!
get an optical mouse...no need for wires
    hang car from tree.
thats funny but mice traps or pioson might work gud luk
rat poison! that should keep em away
Cats. I have four cats. Guess what? No mice!
put some hot sauce on the wires worked good to cure my cat from chewing on wires
mouse trap cat wil work Poison will do the trick
